VIOLA — The Mercer County Sheriff's Office responded to several accidents Sunday night because of icy pavement.

At 6 p.m., one person was reported injured when five vehicles went into the ditch along U.S. 67 south of Viola.

The names of those involved were not immediately available Monday morning. Deputies were joined at the scene by Viola Fire and Rescue, Genesis Ambulance, Brad's towing, Berg's Towing and the Illinois Department of Transportation. Icy roads and driving too fast for conditions were cited as the cause of the accident.

At 6:20 p.m.,deputies responded to a vehicle in the ditch on U.S. 67 at the Illinois 135 interchange near Alexis at the Mercer/Warren county line. No injuries were reported; icy roads were cited as the cause of the accident.

At 6:30 p.m., deputies responded to a one-vehicle roll-over on Illinois 17 near Viola that sent a teen driver to the hospital with multiple injuries. The driver's name was not available Monday morning. Deputies were joined at the scene by Viola Fire and Rescue, New Windsor Fire and Rescue and Jeff's Towing. Icy roads and driving too fast for conditions were cited as the cause of the accident.
