CLARENCE, Iowa — Allen W. Syring, 62, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, at the Clarence Nursing Home. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Clarence, with Pastor Tommi Boeder officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at Chapman's, Clarence.

Al was born Feb. 25, 1954, in Cedar Rapids to Wayne and Carol Rorick Syring. He married Marcia Hormann on March 18, 1972, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Clarence.

Survivors include his wife, Marcia; sons, Scott (Lisa), of Tipton, Iowa, and Stan (Heather), of Clarence; daughter, Lori (Dan) Nelson, of Big Rock; mother, Carol Syring ,of Clarence; brother, K.C. (Jill) Syring, of Clarence; sister, Karen (Cliff) Klouda, of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Kayla, Jenna and Cole Syring, Connor and Cameron Nelson.

Al enjoyed racing, whether it would be local dirt racing or his trips to Michigan to watch NASCAR with Marcia. He participated in demolition derbies in his earlier years. He liked to relax at the cabin, scratch lottery tickets, casinos, driving a semi or going to his grandkids’ activities.

His father preceded him in death.
