Mary Ellen O’Connor was born Dec. 8, 1952, in Davenport, a daughter of John F. “Jack” and Bette L. (DeWulf) O’Connor. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic Elementary School, graduated from Central High School and obtained her registered nursing degree at Clinton Community College.

She married Tom Levsen; she then later was united in marriage to Steven Ray Phillips, on Oct. 14, 1995.

Mary Ellen was proud to be a nurse and was honored to provide dignified care to all her patients and the families she cared for. She began her career assisting many years in the obstetrician/gynecologist office of the late Dr. Ron Meseke and Dr. Darryl Johnson. She most recently was employed by Genesis Health Group in Eldridge. She missed being able to help and assist with the patients during her illness.

Besides spending time with her family and friends, some of Mary Ellen’s greatest joys were spending time outdoors, fishing, camping, campfires and riding on Steve’s Harley, where this time of year she loved looking at the fall colors. She had also been a member of women’s softball leagues in the Quad-Cities and enjoyed the position of catcher.

Memorials can be made to the family for a future memorial to be established in Mary Ellen’s name.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Steve Phillips; sons, Michael Levsen and Patrick Levsen; stepchildren, Andrew Phillips, Colleen Phillips, Amy (Jon Backstrom) Phillips, all of Davenport; grandchildren, Allie Levsen, Connor Levsen, Christian Rauch, Chloe Rauch, Kathleen Phillips and Fiona Backstrom; brothers, James P.
