DAVENPORT — Ruth R. Hoogerwerf, 61, of Davenport passed away Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at Genesis Medical Center-West Central Park Avenue, Davenport. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at The Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary. Inurnment will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Ruth was born Dec. 21, 1952, in Davenport, the daughter of Carol and Mildred (Gustafson) Moore. She was united in marriage to Michael Hoogerwerf on Dec. 30, 1972, in Davenport. She was a rabid Cubs fan. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed playing bunko. She especially loved her grandchildren. When her daughters were little, she loved to make special treats for them to take to school. Her personality was very caring, which made her a second mom for a lot of people.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Michael, Davenport; daughters, Nicole (Douglas) Lear, Moline, Danielle Hoogerwerf, Davenport, and Melissa (Adam) Heeren, Taylor Ridge, Ill.; grandchildren, Connor Heeren and Leila Hoogerwerf, and a third, Harper, on the way; brothers, Dr. William (Carol) Moore, Ames, Iowa, and Tom (Donna) Moore, Davenport; sisters, Ann (John) Riley, Dubuque, Iowa, and Judy Holst, Davenport, and several nieces and nephews.
