SHERRARD, Ill. — Travis Dean "Turbo" DeVriendt, 25, of Sherrard, died Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at Genesis Medical Center-East Rusholme Street, Davenport.
A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan. Visitation is 1-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
Travis was born Aug. 2, 1989, in Moline, a son of Ronnie J. and Darla Higgins DeVriendt. He was a 2007 graduate of Sherrard High School, where he played both football and baseball. He was a journeyman lineman working for Locals 51, 55, 149, MidAmerican 109, California 1245, South Dakota 426 and Minnesota 160.
Along with being an avid hunter, fisherman, go-kart and late model racer, Travis loved spending time with friends and family. He was a member of the Schurr Power Motorsports Team, and a successful competitor in the Rock Island Grand Prix, where he raced for more than 12 years.
Travis leaves behind his parents, Ronnie and Darla, Sherrard; brother and sister-in-law, Ryan and Sarah DeVriendt, Georgetown, Ky.; a beloved nephew, Julius Colton DeVriendt, Georgetown; maternal grandparents, Richard and Mary Higgins, Bettendorf; paternal grandmother, Celina DeVriendt, Sherrard; his loving companion, Jacci Willits, New Boston, Ill.; aunts, uncles, cousins and too many friends to mention. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Julius Maurice DeVriendt.
