WHBF Local 4 You news reporter Tehera Rahman gives her report on the air during Thursday's 6 p.m. newscast.

Rock Island TV news reporter Tahera Rahman appeared on NBC's "Megyn Kelly TODAY" show on Wednesday in a special segment in honor of International Women's Day.

Rahman made history last month when she, while wearing her hijab, reported her first on-air segment with WHBF, or Local 4 News, the Rock Island-based CBS affiliate. She is believed to be the first full-time reporter who is a Muslim woman to wear a hijab on mainstream TV news in the United States.

Rahman joined "Today" host Megyn Kelly for a live interview Wednesday morning at NBC Studios in New York.

The 27-year-old Chicago-area native was featured as part of the show's "She Made It" series, which celebrates "women who have achieved goals, big and small."

In a February interview with the Quad-City Times, Rahman said she was told many times that wearing her hijab would make it harder, if not impossible, to get a job as a TV reporter.

“I’ve done everything I wanted to do in life wearing (my hijab) and I never felt it was a barrier for anything,” Rahman said in the story. “Taking it off might get me this job a lot quicker, but I don’t think I should have to sacrifice who you are to do that. Especially not in America.”

Since Local 4 News aired a segment about the station's new reporter on Feb. 9, Rahman has also been featured in stories by the Huffington Post, the Chicago Tribune and the Des Moines Register.
