Scott County was one of three local governments in Iowa to receive a national Sunny Award, handed out by a nonprofit organization dedicated to government transparency.

Scott County was graded “A+” by the Sunshine Review and was among 214 governmental bodies recognized nationwide. Also recognized in Iowa by the group were Johnson County  and the Ankeny Community School District, which each received “A-” grades.

The Sunny Awards recognizes governments that do an exemplary job at proactively disclosing information to taxpayers, according to the Sunshine Review. For the 2012 awards, more than 6,000 government websites were graded by examining content available against what should be provided, such as budgets, meetings, lobbying, financial audits, contracts, academic performance, public records and taxes.

The winners of the Sunny Award all received an “A” grade during the extensive grading process.
