One person is dead and three are seriously injured after a head-on crash Wednesday morning on Interstate 280, Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Dyan Talbot said.
The crash occurred at 7:36 a.m. near the Quad-City International Airport interchange.
Talbot said that a White 2005 Ford E350 truck, driven by Derrek M. Cribbs, 20, of East Moline, was westbound on I-280 when for unknown reasons the truck crossed the median and went into the eastbound lanes.
The truck crashed head-on into a 2004 Dodge pickup that was eastbound on Interstate 280, and driven by Troy R. Puffinbarger, 46, of Dixon, Iowa.
Cribbs and two passengers from the Ford truck, Eduardo T. Gonzalez, 20, of Rock Island, and Cole P. Orsborn, 20, of Moline, as well as Puffinbarger, were all taken to Trinity Moline with serious injuries, Talbot said.
Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson said that Puffinbarger was pronounced dead at 9:18 a.m. An autopsy is tentatively scheduled for Thursday in Freeport, Illinois.
The conditions of Cribbs, Gonzalez and Orsborn were not available late Wednesday.
The crash remains under investigation, Talbot said.
