Update: Police seek help identifying body found in west Davenport

UPDATE: Davenport police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the body of the person found dead this morning in the 3000 block of West Denison Avenue. The body is that of a black male, about 5 feet tall, thin build, with braided hair. He was wearing tan coveralls.


EARLIER REPORT: Davenport police say that at 4:29 a.m. police and fire units responded to a suspicious fire near the street in the 3000 block of West Denison Avenue.

Once the flames were extinguished a body was discovered.

Detectives are actively working a death investigation.

Anyone with information regarding these incidents is encouraged to “DO WHAT’S RIGHT” and call the Davenport Police Department at 563 326-6125 or submit an anonymous tip via the mobile app entitled “CityConnect Davenport, IA” or “CrimeReports by Motorola”.

No other details are being released at this time.


EARLIER REPORT: Davenport police have closed West Denison Avenue between North Clark Street and Hillandale Road this morning.

Numerous officers and police vehicles are on the scene. 

Yellow tape has been placed to cordon off a portion of the block.

The incident began with a report of a "suspicious fire." That call came in between 4:30 a.m. and 5 a.m.
