Letter: Trumpcare and greed

While Obamacare has problems, like the lack of a public option, Trumpcare shows the true colors of many (but not all) Republicans. They view poor and middle-class people as "lazy," and therefore undeserving of things like a decent living wage and health care. They want to cut Medicaid to give even more tax breaks to wealthy, deserving people like themselves.

These are the same people who have fought tooth and nail against Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid for decades. They would love to privatize or totally defund these programs, along with the Postal Service and the Veterans Administration, so Wall Street could be infused with trillions while the rest of us would have to pull ourselves up by our boot straps.

When Republicans say they don’t want to take away our "freedoms," this is what they mean: Everybody is "free" to sink or swim and let those who are unable to swim, drown.

Except for the very wealthy, people who have catastrophic illnesses, or mental or physical disabilities, depend on Medicaid to live. The Republican health care bill cuts over $800 billion from Medicaid and gives huge tax cuts to the very wealthy that don't need them.

This not only reflects their lack of compassion for the poorest among us, but it also exposes their unbridled greed. Look at what they do, not what they say. We, the people, still have the power to stop them. Please call your senator today.
