The Iowa women’s basketball team won 77-67 over Rutgers, attained a 22-6 record, and Megan Gustafson became Iowa’s single-season scoring and rebounding leader last week. However, the Quad-City Times sports editor chose to put that story on page D4 in a combination story with other college women’s basketball results.
Meanwhile, the top story for the front of the sports section the same day is another report of the struggling Iowa men’s basketball team, which lost to Minnesota. This story consumes the entire top quarter of the page and continues to page D4. The reader knows when and how to view the next men’s game on television, a courtesy not accorded the Iowa women.
I love all things Hawkeye, but the Iowa women are deserving of better coverage from the Times.
