We support the buy fresh buy local movement but also feel it is more important how things are grown and handled than where things are grown. We know the farmers we buy from and have full confidence in their ability to get a responsibly grown product ready to market at a fare price. Many of the growers we buy from are sons and daughters and even grandchildren of folks we bought from at Mr. Home Grown forty years ago. Many are in Michigan (the fruit belt of the Midwest) and most have markets at home and also take their product to a Farmers Market.

We normally open our store in mid April selling bedding plants and stay open selling seasonal produce like many kinds of berries, peaches, and apples along with many vegetables through October. We sell a good portion of our product at the Freight House Farmers Market at 421 River Drive in Davenport, Iowa on Saturday Mornings. We also have the Four Daughters Coffee Shop inside the market featuring freshly roasted organic and Fair Trade coffee beans from around the world. You can also buy a fresh cup of coffee to enjoy while shopping the many vendors at market.

Our hours change frequently so it’s a good idea to call. Many times we will close due to bad weather. Starting June 1st we will have someone here most of the time but if not, we have a box for payment on the wall in the self serve produce shed. We will trust you to put your cash or check into the box for payment of plants and produce.

Folks come from all over to buy our quality hanging baskets and tropical plants.
