A carnival will kick off the 2013 Summer Reading Program sponsored by the Davenport Public Library. The event is scheduled for noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Eastern Avenue Branch, 6000 Eastern Ave., Davenport.

The first stop will be to sign up for the Summer Reading Program, with this year’s “Dig Into Reading” theme. Information about the program will be available, and the grand prizes will be on display. This year’s prizes include gift baskets and two 16-inch bicycles courtesy of Jerry & Sparky’s Cycling & Fitness. There also will be games, a dunk tank and the opporunity to have your picture taken with Libby the Library Dog as a 25-foot balloon.

Supporters include Friends of the Davenport Public Library, Quad-City Times, Jerry & Sparky’s Cycling & Fitness, Hy-Vee, Monkey Joes and Isabel Bloom. The Summer Reading Program is free and concludes on Aug. 1 with the 26th annual Bix Porch Party.
