Clinton police investigate dog bite case

Clinton police are seeking information from the public about a dog that attacked a 31-year-old woman, causing injuries severe enough that she required hospitalization.

The victim, Destony Payton, address not given, told police she was sitting on a curb at 11:40 p.m. Sunday in the 2200 block of North 6th Street when she was attacked.

Paytron was taken initially to Mercy Medical Center in Clinton and then transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Her condition was not immediately available.

The dog involved in the attack was described as short-haired, stocky and dark in color. It is believed to have been wearing a blue collar and was last seeing running north on 6th Street.

Anyone who has seen a dog matching that description or has information about its whereabouts is asked to contact Clinton police at 563-243-1458.

Police urged anyone who sees the dog to avoid contact with it. to not attempt to apprehend it and to immediately call the police department.
