Pritzker said Illinois school districts can expect to receive roughly $7 billion in federal funds to help them transition back to in-person learning, mainly through the recently-passed American Rescue Plan. About 90% of that money will come in the form of direct payments.

Fewer drivers on the roads and passengers on trains and buses during the COVID-19 pandemic have cost Illinois more than $1 billion in lost transportation revenues, a study has found. That includes the loss of $308 million in expected motor fuel taxes, which means less money for the state, counties and cities for transportation projects.
