FILE: Iowa's Vince Turk competes with Illinois' Mike Carr in their 141-pound match during a December dual at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

In addition to the suspension of all-American Sam Stoll he announced during an appearance in the Quad-Cities last month, Iowa wrestling coach Tom Brands has suspended returning letterwinner Vince Turk for the Hawkeyes' season opener.

Both will sit out Iowa's season-opening duals against Cal-Bakersfield and Kent State at Kent, Ohio, on Nov. 9.

"This program holds its wrestlers to a high standard and our team expects everyone to meet those standards,'' Brands said in a statement announcing the suspensions. "When a student-athlete falls short of those expectations, it is the coach's job to hold them accountable.''

Both are being suspended for a violation of team rules.

"Sam and Vince have accepted the consequences of their actions,'' Brands said. "The infractions were a first for both men, and I am pleased with their response. We are moving forward.
