The Geneseo softball team used a six-run fourth inning to fend off a challenge from Alleman and pull away to an 11-4 victory and a 2-0 start to Western Big 6 play. The Lady Leafs (7-1) led 5-0 after the first two innings, but the Pioneers (0-4, 0-2) battled back with three runs in the top of the third.

After tying the IHSA record for most consecutive wins on Tuesday, the Rockridge softball team made that mark its own Wednesday as it topped Galesburg 10-0 in five innings for its 70th consecutive victory. Off to a 5-0 start, the two-time defending Class 2A state champion Rockets bettered Casey-Westfield's standard of 69 straight wins that had stood for nearly 25 years.
