Caelin Foley capped his high school cross country career with an area-best showing at Saturday's Illinois state cross country meet.
The Mid-County senior finished 22nd in the 1A meet, with his time of 15:31.58 missing the top 20 by less than two seconds.
Foley had placed sixth at the Oregon sectional last Saturday to become one of three area runners to qualify for the boys state meet.
Rockridge junior Tyler Kibling finished 54th in the 217-runner boys 1A field Saturday, and Foley's teammate Lorin Peterson came in 84th.
Illinois girls state meet
Brown grabs top-30 2A finish: Geneseo senior Josie Brown finished 28th in Class 2A to lead the way among the area runners at the Illinois high school girls state cross country meet Saturday.
Brown, who qualified thanks to a fourth-place finish at sectionals, completed the course in 18:11.83.
The Quad-City area's other 2A qualifier, Alleman's Alexandra Cajigal, finished in 18:44.80 to place 63rd.
Moline sophomore Lylia Gomez, the area's lone 3A qualifier, ran an 18:16.98 to finish in 114th.
Wethersfield teammates Rachel Gomez and Crystal Musgrave finished 91st and 108th respectively in 1A, and Orion's Maryn Bollinger finished in 122nd.
