Basics: 7 p.m. today, Linn-Mar High School, Marion
Overview: Ranked eighth in Class 5A, PV is seeking its first state tournament trip in five years. The Spartans have won 13 of their last 15 matches. Erica Brohm leads PV with 3.41 kills per set and a .384 hitting efficiency, and Kora Ruff averages more than 9 assists per set. Purdue recruit Megan Renner, a 6-foot-2 senior, paces No. 5 Linn-Mar in kills (2.4) and assists (5.1). The Lions are looking for their third consecutive state appearance.
Clinton (27-10) at Dubuque Wahlert (22-12)
Basics: 7 p.m. today, Dubuque Wahlert High School
Overview: No. 10 Clinton, coming off a five-set win over North Scott, meets traditional power and fourth-ranked Wahlert. Clinton has been battle-tested with 18 matches against state-ranked foes. Grace Tubbs averages 3.3 kills per set and setter Brooke Mulholland collects 7.5 assists per set. Junior Aliyah Carter is Wahlert's primary offensive threat, averaging 5.3 kills per set (second in Class 4A). She had 36 kills in a match earlier this season.
Assumption (30-5) vs. Albia (17-17)
Basics: 7 p.m. today, West Burlington High School
Overview: Class 3A fourth-ranked Assumption looks for the program's second state trip in three years. The Knights have four players averaging at least two kills per set -- Kylie Welch (2.6), Anna Vonderhaar (2.4), Emma Schubert (2.1) and Carly King (2.0). Albia lost eight of its last nine regular-season matches, but has victories over Davis County and Central Lee in regionals. Abbey Griffin leads Albia in kills (3.4), aces (54) and blocks (19).
Camanche (28-6) vs. New Hampton (35-5)
Basics: 7 p.m. today, Cedar Rapids Washington High School
Overview: Class 3A seventh-ranked Camanche has swept its way through the first two rounds against Monticello and Anamosa. Senior Madilynn Parson is second in 3A with 4.78 kills per set and hits at a .431 efficiency. No. 13 New Hampton started the season 24-0. Three of the Chickasaws' five defeats are to 4A programs, including two to state-ranked Waverly-Shell Rock. Junior Rachel Rinken leads New Hampton at 2.96 kills per set and 57 aces.
Tipton (36-3) vs. Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont (12-21)
Basics: 7 p.m. today, Grinnell High School
Overview: Second-ranked Tipton has swept Mid-Prairie and Williamsburg in the first two rounds. It is heavily favored to reach state tournament for second consecutive season. EBF dropped 11 of its last 12 regular-season matches. Sommer Daniel and Amanda Smith pace the Tigers. Daniel, a Utah recruit, averages 4.05 kills, 4.6 assists and 3.02 digs per set. Smith racks up nearly 5 assists and 3 digs per set. Tipton's three losses are to ranked teams.
