Michigan at Iowa basketball: The first two games of the Big Ten slate did not go well for Iowa, losing at home to Penn State and falling at Indiana last month. With five straight wins, Iowa hopes the resumption of league play can bring better results.
Iowa (9-6) has scored at least 80 points in each of its last five outings, including a 98-75 rout over Northern Illinois on Friday. Coach Fran McCaffery's team has four players averaging double figures, led by Tyler Cook's 13.9 points per game.
Michigan (12-3) enters with a five-game win streak. The Wolverines' last loss was to Ohio State in early December. Charles Matthews paces Michigan with 16 points and 5 rebounds per game. Tip-off is 6 p.m. and the game is on ESPN2.
Assumption at North Scott wrestling: Projected as the top two teams in the Mississippi Athletic Conference, Class 2A third-ranked Assumption travels to 3A sixth-ranked North Scott for a dual meet.
Assumption is led by Trenton McDonough (106 pounds), Matt Robertson (132) and Julien Broderson (182). Robertson and Broderson have not lost a match yet this season. North Scott counters with six state-ranked wrestlers in Caleb McCabe (126), Mikey Wheeler (132), Collin Lewis (145), Jake Matthaidess (160), Zach Petersen (220) and Cole Ernst (285).
Varsity bouts begin just after 7 p.m. in The Pit.
Second half of season begins: After a two-week hiatus for the holidays, every MAC basketball team, boys and girls, is in action to commence the second half of the season.
Among the notable matchups are North Scott heading to Davenport North for a girl-boy doubleheader, the Muscatine boys traveling to Davenport West and Bettendorf hosting Assumption in a battle of 6-2 girls squads in league play.
IHMVCU Shootout: Three weeks after the boys held its Genesis Shootout, the girls take center stage for its bi-state basketball battle at Moline's Wharton Field House.
Rock Island, which just finished playing at the Title IX tournament in Washington, D.C., faces Iowa Class 5A fourth-ranked Pleasant Valley in the marquee game at 8:30 p.m. The game features at least four future Division I players in Rock Island's Brea Beal (undecided) and Chrislyn Carr (Texas Tech) along with PV's Ellie Spelhaug (Bradley) and Kira Arthofer (Eastern Illinois).
The seven-game event tips off at 10 a.m. with Davenport West facing Sherrard, followed by Davenport Central and Alleman (11:45 am.), Davenport North-Pekin (1:30 p.m.) and Assumption-United Township (3:15 p.m.)
North Scott battles with Geneseo in the 5 p.m. contest and Moline collides with Bettendorf on its home floor at 6:45 p.m. Admission is $5 for the day.
