Come along with the QC Times Plus 60 Club and Trailways Travel to a day filled with everything Dutch, on Thursday, May 5, as we travel to Pella, Iowa, for the Tulip Time Festival.
We will depart Davenport from CASI, 1035 W. Kimberly Road, at 7 a.m., and Walcott from the Pilot Travel Center, 2975 N. Plainview Road, at 7:30, and there will be a rest break en route to Pella, on our own.
At 10 a.m. we'll arrive in Pella, for the Tulip Time Festival, and a day on our own. We should be sure to visit the Historical Village and the Vermeer Mill, possibly before lunch at the Trinity Reformed Church. At the church, we'll have lunch which includes: roast beef or ham; mashed potatoes; beans; dinner roll; and our choice of pie, or almond bar; and a drink. A visit to the Historical Village includes a collage of more than 20 buildings. Some are more than 150 years old, for instance, the boyhood home of Wyatt Earp, a log cabin, blacksmith shop, grist mill, 19th century house, library with large dolls and Delft displays and extensive collections of Dutch and other early settler antiques. The Vermeer Mill is still working and its stone ground flour is available for purchase in the gift shop.
When the Grandstand Show begins, we will have reserved seating where the street is scrubbed before the parade begins. The parade will end at approximately 4:30 and we will leave Pella at 5. There will be another rest break on our own, before we return to Walcott at 7:30, and Davenport at 8.
Pricing for this historical trip is $86.00 per person, with a $4.00 discount for Plus 60 Members. The price includes deluxe roundtrip motorcoach transportation, an on board host, tours of the Historical Village and the Vermeer Windmill, lunch at the Trinity Reformed Church, and reserved bleacher seating for the parade and grandstand show.
