Here is the afternoon forecast from the National Weather Service.

It will be mostly sunny with a high near 16 degrees and wind-chill values as low as zero. Winds will be from the northwest.

Tonight there's a 50 percent chance of snow after 3 a.m. with new snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. The low will be around 1 degree with wind-chill values as low as -10 degrees. 

Thursday will be cloudy with a high near 24 degrees. Southwest winds will be around 5 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon.

Thursday night there is an 80 percent chance of snow mainly after midnight. The low will be around 17 degrees. Northeast winds will be 5-10 mph. New snow accumulation could be around three inches.

Davenport issues another snow emergency

• The city of Davenport has declared a second snow emergency specific to downtown Davenport and the Hilltop neighborhood. This snow emergency begins at 10 p.m. tonight and will expire at 6 a.m., Thursday.

Vehicles parked on posted snow routes in the downtown and Hilltop area will be ticketed and towed. (see map)

As an alternative to on-street parking in the downtown, residents and visitors may park in any one of the city’s three parking ramps for free beginning at 5 p.m. through 7 a.m., Thursday.

Downtown and Hilltop snow removal is being performed in response to 4-plus inches of snow received earlier in the week, and in advance of anticipated more snow on Friday.

1 dead, 3 injured in head-on crash near airport

• One person was killed and three injured in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning on Interstate 280 just west of the Quad-City International Airport interchange.

The crash happened about 7:36 a.m.

Illinois State Police say a white 2005 Ford “box” truck was driving westbound on 1-280 when it left the roadway for unknown reasons, crossed through the median and crashed head-on into a white 2004 Dodge pick-up truck.

Three people from the box truck and one person from the pick-up truck were taken to Trinity Rock Island with serious injuries, according to state police. One of the injured later died.

Their names are being withheld at this time.

I-280 eastbound is closed and traffic is being diverted at Exit 15, Milan. Moline Police Department, Rock Island County Sheriff’s Department, Milan Police Department, Illinois State Police, Moline Fire Department, and Illinois Department of Transportation are on scene.
