New event venue, The Eddy, to hold grand opening and open house
A new event venue is opening its doors in the heart of the historic Village of East Davenport. The Eddy, a newly renovated event space designed for weddings, celebrations, and community gatherings, will celebrate its grand opening and open house on Friday, April 10, from 5-8 p.m. at 1019 Mound Street, Third Floor in Davenport. The public is invited to stop by, tour the space, and experience the venue set up for events.
The venue is designed to host weddings, receptions, rehearsal dinners, showers, graduation parties, corporate events, and other private celebrations.
The name “The Eddy” pays tribute to the history of the area itself. Long before the neighborhood became the district it is today, rivermen referred to the bend in the Mississippi River here as “Stubb’s Eddy,” named after James R. Stubbs, a former West Point graduate who later lived as a hermit in a cave overlooking the river in the early 1800s. The calm, swirling water of the eddy provided a safe harbor for boats navigating the rapids nearby, and the name eventually became associated with the early settlement that later developed into the Village.
During the grand opening open house, guests will be able to explore the newly updated space, see example event setups, and meet the team behind the venue. Light hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be provided.
“We’re excited to bring a new event space to the Village that reflects both the history and energy of this neighborhood,” said Chelsea Long, Venue Coordinator. “The Eddy is designed to be a place where people can gather, celebrate, and create memorable experiences.”
The event is free and open to the public. Local residents, event planners, and anyone looking for a unique venue for upcoming celebrations are encouraged to attend.
