The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) is seeking parents, caregivers, students, staff and community members to serve on its Special Education Advisory Council for the 2026–27 school year.
The council provides an opportunity for members of the MMSD community to share feedback, elevate family perspectives and help strengthen special education programs and services across the district. Council members work collaboratively with district staff to discuss topics affecting students receiving special education services and to support communication between MMSD and the broader community.
"The Special Education Advisory Council plays an important role in helping us better understand the experiences, perspectives and priorities of the students and families we serve," said Dr. Nancy Molfenter, associate superintendent of student services. "By bringing together diverse voices from across our community, we can continue improving our programs and ensuring every student has access to the support they need to learn, grow and thrive."
MMSD uses a representation rubric during the selection process to help ensure the council reflects the diversity of the district's students, families and community. Members are expected to actively participate in meetings and assist with outreach and communication to district leadership throughout the school year.
The council will meet seven times during the 2026–27 school year, including four in-person meetings at the Doyle Administration Building and three virtual meetings. Members are expected to attend at least five of the seven scheduled meetings.
Individuals interested in serving on the council must complete an online application by Aug. 7, 2026. New members will be notified of their appointment status by Sept. 7, 2026.
