The City of Silvis and Silvis Main Street are hosting the fourth annual Hispanic Heritage Festival, which will bring live music, cultural dances, food and local vendors downtown on Saturday, Sept. 12.
Silvis Mayor Robert Cervantes said the entertainment, authentic food and vendors will line downtown’s Hero Street from 12 to 8 p.m. Cervantes said the DJ will begin around 12:30 p.m. and later, the Crooked Cactus Band is set to take the stage around 4 p.m.
On Saturday, Sept. 12 from noon to eight o’clock, the city of Silvis and Silvis Main Street are hosting the fourth annual Hispanic Heritage Festival on downtown Hero Street.
Cervantes started the event four years ago, when he was a former Silvis alderman, and said that since then it’s grown to attract over 2,500 people.
However, this year he said there will be fewer food vendors, with seven food vendors and four non-food vendors as of the afternoon of Sept. 1. The recently opened Moore Caffeine will be in attendance, he said.
“(The festival) gives Hispanic people a chance to show off their music, food and culture to the community,” Cervantes said.

In the past, Cervantes said there have been concerns about residents attending in regard to the possible presence of United States’ Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
In the second year, the mayor said the event was almost postponed due to the widespread fear of ICE taking local residents.
“I do not foresee that to be an issue this year,” Cervantes said.
Admission is free, and Cervantes said all of the proceeds raised go back to Silvis Main Street to fundraise future community events.
