West 2nd Street closure Saturday for Viva Muscatine

MUSCATINE, Iowa – West 2nd Street will be closed to all vehicle traffic from Iowa Avenue to Pine Street, including the intersections at Iowa Avenue and Chestnut Street, beginning at 6 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, for a special event. City Parking Lot #2 (Pine & West 2nd Street) will also be closed.

The closure will remain in place until 8 p.m. to support event activities and post-event cleanup. Drivers should plan alternate routes and use caution near the festival area. The closure creates a pedestrian-only corridor to ensure a safe, walkable, and family-friendly environment throughout the day.

The street will be closed to accommodate Viva Muscatine, a community celebration of Muscatine’s Hispanic culture and heritage, scheduled from 11 a.m.–6 p.m. in the 100 and 200 blocks of West 2nd Street.

Viva Muscatine has grown into a signature regional event, offering an immersive cultural experience for all ages. This year’s celebration features an expanded lineup of authentic food trucks, artisan vendors, live entertainment, and hands-on activities for children.

The event is free and open to the public, made possible through the support of local sponsors, volunteers, and community partners committed to fostering unity and cultural appreciation.

• Authentic cuisine — Raulito's Tacos, Lily's Authentic Mexican Food, Mendoza Street Dogs, Antojitos Carmen, A Treat from Mexico, Ema Raspado Delicia, and Asima's Balkan Delights.
• Live entertainment — Continuous performances featuring traditional music and dance. Attendees may bring lawn chairs.
• Family & Kids Zone — Free activities including face painting, balloon creations, and arts and crafts.
• Artisan shopping — Local vendors offering jewelry, clothing, handmade crafts, soaps, and beauty products.
• Community resources — Interactive booths from Musser Public Library, Muscatine Art Center, LULAC, and Trinity Muscatine Public Health.
