Dayton, Ohio – The Quad Cities River Bandits (60-52, 30-19) saw their seven-game win streak come to an end Thursday and totaled just one run on two hits, as they fell to the Dayton Dragons (60-55, 21-28) 7-1 at Day Air Ballpark.
Quad Cities starter and Royals No. 29 prospect Blake Wolters matched Dayton’s Edgar Colon zero for zero through the first two innings, but allowed a string of six-straight one-out baserunners in the third, including RBI singles from Tyson Lewis, John Michael Faile and Ty Doucette.
A pair of solo homers put the Dragons up 6-0, with Justin Lebron tagging Wolters in the fourth and Faile launching his in the fifth.
The River Bandits failed to record a hit against the duo of Colon (4.0 IP) and Stharlin Torres (2.0 IP). Erick Torres broke up Dayton’s perfect start with a one-out triple in the seventh and came in to score one batter later on Hyungchan Um’s RBI groundout, but it would wind up the only blemish on David Lorduy’s line, as the right-hander closed out the final three innings of the game on the mound for Dayton.
Ryan McCrystal tagged Mason Miller for a run in the bottom of the seventh with the Dragons’ third solo home run of the night. Miller was the only Quad Cities reliever to appear in the contest, striking out four over 3.0 innings.
Torres (1-0) earned his first High-A win in the effort, while Wolters (3-8) was tagged with the loss, allowing six runs in 5.0 innings on a career-high 10 hits, one walk and five strikeouts.
The River Bandits return to Day Air Ballpark for game four of the six-game set tomorrow and send Emmanuel Reyes (6-3, 4.01) to the mound opposite Kyle McCoy (4-4, 4.50). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. ET.
