Augustana Athletics Day of Giving sets donation record
The fourth annual Augustana Athletics Day of Giving generated a record donation total of $230,235 that will further enhance the experience for more than 750 Viking student-athletes.
A total of 1,108 donations were part of the Augustana Athletics Day of Giving campaign that concluded earlier today.
"On behalf of our entire staff and student-athletes, a heartfelt thank you to the alumni, friends, parents and students who contributed to the Augustana Athletics Day of Giving," said Michael Zapolski, director of athletics. "The success of the Augustana Athletics Day of Giving was the direct result of the collaborative work by many people, including our campus colleagues in the Advancement and Communications and Marketing offices along with our athletics staff and student-athletes."
The donation total of $230,235 surpassed last year's final tally by 31 percent, and numerous programs met or exceeded their fund-raising goal.
The men's golf program led the way with contributions totaling $34,575, followed by men's basketball ($33,950) and women's swimming and diving ($26,010).
"Athletics plays an integral role in the DNA and fabric of Augustana," said Zapolski. "We place high expectations on our student-athletes to succeed in the classroom along with their sport of choice, and the opportunities afforded by the Augustana Athletics Day of Giving help us provide additional amenities and support."
