MUSCATINE, Iowa – The City of Muscatine has named Nick Gow as the new Parks and Recreation Director, effective July 22, 2026. City Administrator Matt Mardesen announced the appointment following a competitive selection process that highlighted Gow’s leadership experience, operational knowledge, and commitment to community-focused recreation services.
Gow has served in multiple roles within the Parks and Recreation Department, most recently as assistant director, where he oversaw program development, facility operations, and seasonal staffing. His work has been instrumental in expanding youth programming, strengthening partnerships with local organizations, and improving customer service across the department.
Mardesen said Gow’s appointment reflects both his proven performance and his vision for the future of Muscatine’s parks system.
“Nick has demonstrated a strong ability to lead, collaborate, and innovate,” Mardesen stated. “His understanding of our community’s needs and his dedication to enhancing recreational opportunities make him the right choice to guide the department forward.”
As director, Gow will oversee park maintenance, recreation programming, special events, aquatic operations, and long-term planning for Muscatine’s parks and facilities. A 2004 graduate of Iowa State University with a bachelor of science in horticulture, Gow was named the athletic facilities manager for the Parks and Recreation Department in February 2005, superintendent of parks in May 2014, and assistant Parks and Recreation director in June 2025. He had been the interim director for the department since Richard Klimes retired earlier this month.
