MUSCATINE, Iowa — Muscatine students from kindergarten through 12th grade can once again enjoy free rides on all MuscaBus route buses throughout the summer of 2026, helping families stay connected to parks, libraries, summer meals, jobs, and community activities.
This year’s fare-free program runs Friday, May 29, through Monday, August 24, offering students a safe, reliable and cost-free way to get around town during their summer break.
“Summer should be a season of exploration, connection, and independence for Muscatine kids,” said Transit Supervisor Amy Fortenbacher. “Providing free rides helps families stretch their budgets while giving students the freedom to reach programs, jobs, and activities all across our community.”
The City of Muscatine is committed to making this a community-centered summer. The fare-free program supports families by reducing transportation barriers and encouraging students to stay active and engaged.

Real-time MuscaBus tracking
This summer — and throughout the year — MuscaBus riders can see exactly where their bus is in real time from a phone, tablet or computer. The City of Muscatine’s new MuscaBus Transit Tracker gives families, students and riders of all ages a clearer picture of when their bus will arrive, helping reduce wait times and making trips easier to plan.
The Transit Tracker displays each bus on an interactive map, updates vehicle locations in real time and lets riders quickly check whether their bus is approaching, running a few minutes behind or has already passed their stop. The tool is designed to support family-friendly transit access, especially during the busy summer months when students are traveling to parks, libraries, summer programs and community events.
