Bev’s Yarn Barn to hold grand opening
A local yarn and craft supply store is set to open in Rock Island. Bev’s Yarn Barn will hold a ribbon cutting on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 11 a.m. to celebrate their grand opening. The business is located in downtown Rock Island at 323 18th Street.
Bev’s Yarn Barn was created with one simple idea in mind: to bring warmth, creativity, and community back to the local yarn scene. Bev’s offers affordable yarns, classes, artwork from local artists, and a rotating vendor table, allowing them to bring other small businesses along for the ride.
Founded by Ashley Burroughs, a crafter and fiber enthusiast, Bev’s Yarn Barn is a response to a growing need in the Quad-Cities—a place where makers of all kinds can gather, learn, shop, and connect. When larger craft stores started closing and options became limited, Ashley saw an opportunity to build something meaningful and local.
Named in loving memory of her grandmother Bev, a woman known for her endless creativity and generous spirit, the shop is more than just a store—it’s a tribute to the kind of space Bev would have loved. One where everyone is welcome, whether you’re picking up your first crochet hook or you’ve been knitting for decades.
Bev’s grand opening week will be open from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct 28; 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29 through Saturday, Nov. 1. Normal business hours will begin on Wednesday, Nov. 5. Operation hours will be noon-7 p.m. Wednesdays, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursdays, noon-7 p.m. Fridays, and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays. Check Bev’s Yarn Barn Facebook page for updates.

The Grape Life
The Grape Life has new owners
The Grape Life Wine Lounge and Cellar is entering an exciting new chapter under the ownership of Jason Huffman and Rhiannon Nichols, who officially take over on Nov. 1.
Jason’s passion for wine began during his Army service in Germany, where he developed an appreciation for European wines and culture. After retiring from the military in 2021, he became a federal employee on Rock Island Arsenal while also working part-time at Olathea Creek Vineyard & Winery in LeClaire, where he learned the winemaking process firsthand. Since then, his knowledge and love of wine have only grown.
Jason and Rhiannon are thrilled to carry on The Grape Life’s spirit and vibrant live music scene. While the heart of the lounge will remain the same, they plan to introduce thoughtful enhancements to the experience. Guests can continue to enjoy talented local musicians every Friday and Saturday night in the intimate, relaxed listening room The Grape Life is known for, participate in monthly Premier Wine Tasting experiences, become a member in their Wine Club, and be on the lookout for occasional Sunday special events.
To celebrate this new beginning, Jason and Rhiannon invite the community to a Grand Welcoming Event on Saturday, Nov. 1 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Stop by to meet the new owners, enjoy a complimentary champagne toast, and take in live music from Playlist Trio throughout the day. You can RSVP on The Grape Life website thegrapelife.com for the QC Santana Tribute Band performing there that night from 8 to 10 p.m. Cost is $5 per person. You can also call 563-355-7070 to make your reservations.
The Grape Life is located at 3402 Elmore Avenue in Davenport. Business hours are 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Closed Sunday and Monday. Facebook page is The Grape Life Wine Store & Lounge.
