Ries Harbor Apartments in Muscatine County
Muscatine Center for Social Action has cut the ribbon on a new 21-unit apartment complex with wrap-around services for homeless people and extremely low-income residents of Muscatine County.
The $3.8 million project is called “Ries Harbor Apartments” to honor Sister Irma Ries, one of the original Executive Directors of MCSA and a member of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The ribbon cutting was held Thursday morning.
“Sister Irma Ries called us to serve others with reverence and compassion,” Naomi DeWinter, president of the MCSA board, said in a social media post shared by MCSA and the Sisters of the Presentation. “Her words continue to shape the mission and actions of Muscatine Center for Social Action today. Naming this development Ries Harbor Apartments honors her legacy of care and reinforces our commitment to creating a safe harbor where individuals experiencing homelessness can find stability, dignity and hope.”
MCSA has grown from providing dormitory housing for men to offering a spectrum of essential services, including emergency shelter and homelessness prevention, domestic violence shelter and more than 70 units of permanent housing, according to a news release.
