Dark Horse coffee shop opens in Preemption

Dark Horse is a family-run, country coffee shop, with a low-key vibe, that aims to offer a variety of options without being too overwhelming. The drive-thru only coffee shop is located at 1706 Highway 67 in Preemption. It opened on Tuesday, Dec. 16, in the former Preemption Veterinary Clinic. Operation hours are 5:30-9 a.m. Monday-Friday, closed Saturday and Sunday. The coffee shop's phone number is 309-737-3789.

Dark Horse has a variety of drinks and serving options on their menu, including lattes, cappuccinos, espresso, Americanos and regular drip coffee, along with a variety of flavorings. Alternative milk is also available. The energy drink menu also has a variety of flavors to choose from, and customers can create their own drink with up to three flavors. Scooter's Coffee opens in Bettendorf

Drive-thru coffeehouse chain Scooter's Coffee recently opened a location in Bettendorf with a larger grand opening planned for Friday, Jan. 9.

The new Scooter's opened on Friday, Dec. 26, and is located in the former QC Fuel location, 1673 Grant St. in Bettendorf, next to Stacks Pancake House Bettendorf. The location offers a drive-thru and walk-in service.

The coffeeshop has a variety of hot and iced drinks, blenders, smoothies, teas, food and more. Click here to view menu.

Operation hours are 5 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Friday, 6 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The Bettendorf coffeeshop business phone is 563-526-8928.  

This is the third Scooter's to open in the Quad Cities. The other two Scooter's are a drive-thru only and are located at 2008 Deere Drive in Milan (opened in Aug. 2022), and 4133 Kennedy Drive in East Moline (opened in Oct. 2024).

Joe's Trattoria in Aledo under new ownership

Joe's Trattoria in Aledo is under new ownership. The pizzeria is located at 602 SE Third St. Joe's Trattoria announced on Facebook on Sunday, Dec. 21, that the restaurant is changing hands.

"After 50 years of serving the Mercer County area, Joe’s Trattoria will be sold effective December 31st," the post read. "The Vitale and Lee families would like to sincerely thank you for your loyalty, support, and patronage over the years. Joe’s has truly been a labor of love, most of the time — and we are incredibly grateful for the memories, friendships, and generations of families we’ve had the privilege to serve."

The pizza recipe will remain with the restaurant, so the pizza will remain the same, the post said, though there may be other changes.

Countryside Lodge Dining announced on Facebook it had purchased the building, with ownership taking effect Dec. 31.

"We will not be making any changes to the pizza recipe at all. So the same pizza you know and love will still be available for years to come," the post said.

The restaurant has a Sunday lunch option in the works.

La Fuente Mexican Restaurant, Moline

La Fuente Mexican Restaurant is now serving alcoholic beverages as of Friday, Jan. 2. The restaurant opened in early December at 4400 Avenue of the Cities in Moline. Alcohol beverages include margaritas, domestic and Mexican beers. 

Duck Creek Tire & Service ribbon cutting

Duck Creek Tire & Service will hold a ribbon-cutting to celebrate their new location at 5632 Forest Grove Drive in Bettendorf, near Iron Tee, on Wednesday, Jan. 7, at 2 p.m. They service all makes and models, and can do anything from a tire repair to an engine replacement.
