He is actively recruiting and teaching men how to play the game.Â
Every Monday and Thursday at 12:30 to 3 p.m. a small group of people gather at the Moline Township Activity Center to play the popular 19th century Chinese gambling game, Mahjong. The name is also stylized as Mah Jongg, Mah Jong and Mahjongg.Â
Dave Iglehart, of Bettendorf, focuses on his next move during Mahjong play at the Moline Township Activity Center on Thursday, Jan. 8, in Moline. Iglehart and his wife were taught by local, avid Mahjong player Reneé Simmon, who started teaching others to play after her husband died. Between Iglehart and Simmon, the two have brought many people to Mahjong in the Quad-Cities.Â
Dave Iglehart's Asian Mahjong set was given to his parents by a family friend who would visit Japan for business trips. While he doesn't personally use the set, there are fond memories attached to the set because his parents had played on it.Â

Mardi Gras beads sit in a box ready to be picked through by winners. Mahjong is a popular gambling game, but because the Moline Township Activity Center players don't want to gamble money, they use the necklaces to tease and taunt the losers — all in good fun.
American Mahjong tiles lie on a table during a game at the Moline Township Activity Center on Thursday, January 8, in Moline. Dave Iglehart believes that the activity center has the largest group of consistent players in the Quad-Cities area and attributes the local success of the Chinese tile game to the Moline Township Activity Center as they have bought several sets and tables made specifically for the game.Â
